It is suggested that the facility's offshore location is designed to allow the facility to avoid the impact of earthquakes hitting the mainland.
At one point prior to the events of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, a research assistant named Anneke Norstadt working at this facility was, intentionally or accidentally, poisoned with the Orchid. However, her death was officially written off by VersaLife as an "industrial accident."

Bob Page was not pleased to discover that Manderley had given such an order to Miller, but tells Manderley that he intends to take advantage of the break-in to clean up a related incident, potentially referring to the incident surrounding the death of Anneke Norstadt.
