Dr. Jaime Reyes is a doctor of UNATCO's Augmentation Division. He is in charge of the medical bay of the UNATCO headquarters on Liberty Island.

Biography[]

Reyes is a former research professor who was recruited by UNATCO for his expertise in nanotechnology, bio-electrics, and human augmentation. Reyes serves as a physician to the organization's mechanical augmented agents as well its new nanotechnologically augmented agents.

While working with mechancially augmented agents, Reyes inadvertently discovered that these agents have a shut-down mechanism. Reyes reported his discovery to his superiors in the Office of Medical Directorate, only to be informed that information on the mechanism is classified, and that further discussion of the matter with unauthorized personnel will result in disciplinary action.[1]

Reyes helped with the training of UNATCO's newest nano-augmented agent, JC Denton, and eagerly assists him with his augmentations upon his arrival at the UNATCO headquarters. Reyes has become dissatisfied with the organization. He previously complained to Manderley that UNATCO troops use excessive force.[2] When JC defects from UNATCO, Reyes tells JC that he wishes to tag along to help the resistance.

Description[]

Frankly, Dr. Jaime Reyes never planned on being a "hands-on" kind of doctor. He'd originally had his sights firmly set on the ivory tower, hoping to hook a nice, tenured professorship and settle down to blue-sky research. Then one week he started getting calls from "just an interested party, sir" — now he knows it was UNATCO — asking him about his published works on nanotechnology, bio-electrics, and one paper in particular about hypothetical ways to bypass the physical limitations of the human body.

Eventually he was recruited to UNATCO. He's an idealistic cynic, surprised to find himself gainfully employed, utilizing practical applications of his pie-in-the-sky ideas. He's delighted and dubious, always waiting for the other shoe to drop in this techno-dreamscape. He has all the notes on previous experiments (although no sign of the previous doctor) and as many tech-assistants as he could want. Jaime has adjusted his sights, and now hopes to produce a few modern-day miracles that will change the world. He's been supervising your augmentation since your first operations, and he's become your best friend in the world, next to Paul.

Interactions[]

During the first mission, JC must check in with Reyes after arriving in the headquarters. Reyes will explain augmentation canisters and the use of medbots for installing such canisters.

Later, JC encounters Reyes after escaping from the secret facility below the headquarters. Reyes will provide JC with the valuable Regeneration / Energy Shield canister. Reyes had ordered the canister a welcome-aboard present for JC, but given the circumstances, JC remarks that it will have to be a retirement gift. Reyes asks what he can do to help. JC can tell Reyes to either go to Hong Kong or stay at UNATCO.

  • If Reyes is told to go to Hong Kong, he will appear in Tracer Tong's laboratory after JC returns from VersaLife's level 2 labs. Reyes will provide JC with an augmentation upgrade canister, stating that he was able to smuggle the item through customs by pretending to be doing business with VersaLife.
  • If Reyes is told to stay at UNATCO, he will appear at the Enfant Terrible café in Paris. At the cafe, Reyes explains that he fled the headquarters after UNATCO had intercepted a communication sent to him by Alex Jacobson. Just before Reyes left, he discovered Gunther Hermann's killphrase, "Laputan Machine," which he divulges to JC. The killphrase enables Gunther Hermann to be instantly killed when encountered inside the Knights Templar Cathedral in the 10th mission.

Quotes[]

  • "Just fixed Gunther's knee, in fact. A sticky actuator. So far I feel more like a mechanic than a doctor.
  • "Gunther went berserk after you escaped, smashed up the cell block pretty bad. I had to sedate him."
  • "Well, here's some God-clearance information for you. Dug it out of classified medical records before I left. Gunther's killphrase is Laputan machine."
  • "At the sound of your voice, 400 milliamps will discharge into Gunther's midbrain. Poof!"
  • "They actually let you point a gun at people?"
  • "If there's a conspiracy, it's at VersaLife; they're the ones making money off the plague."
  • "Thought you could run off for a weekend in Paris without me?"

Notes[]

  • Due to a scripting oversight, if the player has a full inventory when talking to Dr. Jaime Reyes in Hong Kong and/or when leaving the Pasadena Ocean Lab, the augmentation upgrade canister that he would give will drop to the floor instead. This will keep happening on any following attempts to talk to him, allowing the player to obtain an infinite supply of upgrade canisters.
    • Because this also attempts to fill up the player's inventory from the top-left due to how inventory is handled, it can trigger a critical error and crash the game if over 250 instances are present (stacked on top of other items) in the inventory.
  • Jaime Reyes is the second character in the game to refer to God clearance, after Paul.
