A portion of the HUD displaying health and bioenergy.

Heads-Up Display (HUD) refers to the player's basic visual aids in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The HUD consists of several sections, each with a unique function. The item bar is the only section that can be hidden through the options menu.

Item barEdit

An item bar with ten slots is displayed on the bottom of the screen (optional). In the PC version of the game, the items in each of these slots can be equipped or used with the number keys 1-9 and 0.

DXHR itembar

Item bar, including red icons.

Consumable items that occupy slots on the bar will continue to occupy it, but turn red when the last item is used. Why that is, or how to remove these red icons is unknown.

Minimap DXHR

The HUD includes a minimap that appears on the bottom left hand corner of the screen. It displays information such as objective markers and nearby NPCs. Friendly NPCs are represented by green arrows while hostile NPCs are represented by red ones.

While in combat, the border around the map will turn red, and the word "hostile" will appear above it. Similarly, if hostile NPCs are merely alerted to Jensen's presence, but have not yet located him, the word "alarmed" will be displayed above the minimap.

Augs HUD

A portion of the HUD displaying three out of a possible four augmentations.

Adam Jensen can acquire four augmentations that require activation. Once each one is acquired, it will be displayed on the right hand side of the screen. This allows the augmentations to be easily activated.
