Fire extinguishers can be found in Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Invisible War. They are used like a weapon by spewing halon gas at your target. By default they have one unit of ammo, and can be used either to put out fires or blind enemies. It can also be used by the player to put themselves out if they were ignited by a flamethrower, albeit with taking some damage.

Fire extinguishers take up one space in the inventory. They can be used to overcome laser systems as the gas temporarily disrupts the laser signals path.

They are useful if the player is using a flamethrower, as they can collect a dead enemy's possessions without taking damage from their burning body.
