Environmental Resistance

Environmental Resistance is a torso augmentation in Deus Ex. It is a nanotechnological augmentation that decreases the damage and effects of toxins.

This augmentation is installed from the augmentation canister that also includes Aqualung. Since there are three torso slots and more than one copy of this canister, it is possible to acquire both Aqualung and Environmental Resistance by using a second copy of the canister.

Description[]

Induced keratin production strengthens all epithelial tissues and reduces the agent's vulnerability to radiation and other toxins.

  • TECH ONE: Toxic resistance is increased slightly.
  • TECH TWO: Toxic resistance is increased moderately.
  • TECH THREE: Toxic resistance is increased significantly.
  • TECH FOUR: An agent is nearly invulnerable to damage from toxins.

Effects[]

Environmental Resistance is an active augmentation that consumes bioelectric energy at 20 units/minute.

When activated, this augmentation provides resistance to the following damage types:[1]

The amount of resistance depends on the tier level, as listed below.

Tier Resistance
Tech 1 25%
Tech 2 50%
Tech 3 75%
Tech 4 90%

The function of this augmentation overlaps with that of hazmat suits, which provide resistance against the exact same damage types. When multiple sources of the same resistance are active, they are applied as sequential percentage reductions to the incoming damage. For example, the combination of Tech 4 Environmental Resistance (90% resistance) and a hazmat suit at the master level (81.5% resistance) results in 98.125% total resistance.[2] Final damage is applied only on the basis of integer values, meaning that a damage of less than 1 is treated as 0. Therefore, even if the actual resistance value is not 100%, full immunity can be attained if resistance is sufficiently high that it lowers damage to a value than 1.
