The Doberman is a hostile animal that appears in Deus Ex. It is one of two dog breeds that appear in the game, the other being the non-hostile mutt.

Characteristics[]

The Doberman is the weakest type of hostile animal, and the only type of hostile animal that is not a transgenic. Dobermans, upon spotting JC Denton, will charge in and attack with their bite, which has a base damage of 5. While Dobermans less dangerous than transgenics, they tend to be in groups or accompanied by guards.

Dobermans are used by the NSF in Hell's Kitchen and Howard Strong's group of MJ12 Troopers at the Missile Silo. They are also seen patrolling the Liberty Island MJ12 lab.

Notes[]

  • Like all other animals, Dobermans cannot be rendered unconscious by non-lethal weapons. Therefore, tranquilizing a dog using the mini-crossbow will result in a dog corpse, rather than rendering them unconscious as with human NPCs.
  • A pacifist player who does not wish to kill the dog can cause it to flee by using tear gas (from a pepper gun or gas grenade) or halon gas (from a fire extinguisher), or by dropping its health to the flee threshold of 2 HP.
