Ballisticarmor

Ballistic Armor is an item in Deus Ex use to provide protection against bullets, lethal melee weapons, and explosions for a limited amount of time.

Description[]

Ballistic armor is manufactured from electrically sensitive polymer sheets that intrinsically react to the violent impact of a bullet or an explosion by 'stiffening' in response and absorbing the majority of the damage. These polymer sheets must be charged before use; after the charge has dissipated they lose their reflexive properties and should be discarded.
IN-GAME DESCRIPTION

Use[]

Ballistic armor provides resistance to the following damage types:[1]

  • Shot – Damage caused by bullets and lethal melee weapons.
  • AutoShot – Damage caused by the gunfire of automated turrets.
  • Sabot – Damage caused by sabot rounds of shotguns.
  • Exploded – Damage caused by explosive projectiles (excluding plasma bolts) and exploding objects.

The amount and duration of resistance depends on the Environmental Training skill as follows:

Skill level in Environmental Training Resistance[2] Duration
Untrained 50.00 % 0:25
Trained 62.50 % 0:33
Advanced 75.00 % 0:50
Master 87.50 % 1:40

The function of ballistic armor overlaps with the function of the Ballistic Protection augmentation (which provides resistance against "Shot" and "AutoShot" damage, but not sabot and explosion damage), and also overlaps with the function of the Energy Shield augmentation (which provides resistance against explosion damage, among other damage types). When two sources of resistance are active, they are applied as sequential percentage reductions.

  2. Damage is reduced by multiplying the damage by (0.50 * the skill level value). The skill level values are 1.00, 0.75, 0.50, and 0.25 (from untrained to master, for SkillEnviro in DeusEx.u).
