The Elite Edition Combat Rifle is a variant of the standard FR-27 S.F.W. Combat Rifle and a weapon in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

Characteristics[]

The Elite Edition combat rifle functions similarly to the standard combat rifle, with the following major differences:

  • The Elite Edition inflicts about 50% more damage per shot than the standard combat rifle, even though the two variants have the same nominal damage rating.[1]
  • The Elite Edition has a three-round-burst firing mode instead of the full-auto firing mode of the standard combat rifle. However, just like the standard combat rifle, the Elite Edition has an unlockable semi auto mode.
  • Upgrading the rate of fire will also lower the weapon's recoil.
  • The Elite Edition has a maximum range of only 50 meters, lower than the range of 60 meters on the standard combat rifle.

The Elite Edition is notable for its hidden, but significant +50% damage per shot as compared to the standard combat rifle. Consequently, when using regular ammo, the Elite Edition inflicts more damage per round than the Machine Pistol in all ranges, whereas the standard combat rifle has lower damage per round than the Machine Pistol at close ranges. When using AP ammo, the Elite Edition inflicts nearly the same amount of damage per hit as an AP-loaded battle rifle.[1]

Since the Elite Edition loses only about 25% of its damage when a silencer is attached,[1] a silenced Elite Edition deals more damage than an unsilenced standard combat rifle. Due its damage boost over the standard combat rifle, many players will find the Elite Edition to be the superior variant in terms of combat performance.

The Elite Edition is also notable for its three-round-burst firing mode, which provides high damage output while maintaining good handling and efficient ammo consumption.

Compared to the standard combat rifle, the main drawbacks of the Elite Edition in terms of combat performance are its smaller magazine size and it's lower maximum range (which is 50 meters compared to the standard rifle's 60 meters). When in doubt as to whether a target is within range, check the rangefinder of the 4x Scope or see if the laser sight is still projecting a dot, in order to confirm that the target is within range.

Notes[]

  • Elite edition weapons are considered to be different weapons from the standard weapon for purposes of inventory management. Thus, when the Elite Edition is in the inventory, picking up a standard combat rifle will place it in the inventory instead of discarding the weapon and keeping the ammo. This makes it more cumbersome to take advantage of the ubiquity of standard combat rifles for purposes of ammunition collection.
  • During the opening cinematic of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, two of the members of TF29 can be seen loading Elite Edition FR-27s.
  • Both the elite and standard rifle "reload canceled." When Jensen inserts the magazine, the reload animation can be cancelled by triggering a sprint or jump.
  • Without a silencer equipped, this weapon fires about 15% slower. This applies only to the elite edition.

The test results show that the damage boost over the standard combat rifle is in the range of 45-55%, depending on the specific set of corresponding weapon configurations. When AP ammo is used, the Elite Edition Combat Rifle deals about 93.3% and 88.6% the damage dealt by the Battle Rifle against a turret at ranges of 2.25 and 23m, respectively.
