Corporal Collins is the first UNATCO trooper encountered in the first mission of Deus Ex. Collins is first seen patrolling the south dock of Liberty Island. Later, after JC returns from the Warehouse District, Collins is seen in his office in the headquarters filling out a report on the mop up operation of the situation in Hell's Kitchen.
Biography[]
A corporal in the ranks of the United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition, Collins has a surprisingly friendly attitude and a talent for tactical assessment. When NSF hit Liberty Island, he was ordered to pull back to let JC Denton take care of the situation, taking over the perimeter at the southern dock.[1] After Liberty Island was secured, he participated in the follow-up operations in New York City, with the usual paperwork afterwards.[2]
Though he is accustomed to combat,[3] he also has a casual attitude, jokingly referring to after-action reports as a way to ensure UNATCO troopers remain literate.[4] He is also not above doctoring paperwork: If five kills net him the UNATCO Red Eye, he will add five kills to the tally in his official report.[5]
At the same time, he's suprisingly empahtetic. Collins believes that rationing Ambrosia to favors the elites is ethically questionable, given that the government could pay VersaLife to manufacture more and dispense with the rationing. He's philosophically oposed to Sgt. Michael Berry, believing that the foundation of the social pyramid is more important than its top.[6]
He has a soft spot for Paul Denton. While he believes he was too much of an idealist for UNATCO,[7] where one has to know how to compromise sometimes,[8] he roots for him in the end, hoping he'll pull off whatever it is he's planning.[9]

- At the start of the first mission, speaking to Collins will reveal details about the events leading up to the current situation. After JC returns from the airfield, Collins is seen talking to Sgt. Michael Berry about the Ambrosia situation, looking at it philosophically.
- If Collins is killed on Liberty Island, his death will have no effect on the rest of the game and he will still spawn during the second and third visits to the UNATCO headquarters. Collins is not encountered during JC Denton's escape from the headquarters.

- Collins has an unusual characteristic of being killable in an earlier mission but invincible in a later mission. Collins' possible death in the first mission is not tracked by any flag or game script; therefore, even if he is killed, he will still later appear in the UNATCO headquarters.
- Collins wields a pistol at the start of the game, but carries an Assault Rifle when he is in the UNATCO headquarters.
